2008 Highlights

November

  • November 10th: Alex brought home his first report card with "real" grades and he earned straight As proving once again that Alex is a smart, persistent driver and student who achieves based on integrity and hard work!
  • November 8th: Region 3 Race at NCQMA--Alex qualified 10th out of 18 cars in Sr. Honda and finished 6th in the B Main. He qualified 11th out of 26 in Lt. 160 and finished 5th in the B Main and 8th in the A Main. 
  • November 1st: NCQMA's Championship Series Points Race--Alex finished 2nd in the Sr. Honda C Main, 5th in the B Main, and 10th in the A Main. He finished 5th in the Lt. 160 B Main and 10th in the A Main. He really had to drive hard, but he worked his way to both A Mains showing his peristence and determination!

October

  • October 25th: Region 3 Race at Metro Atlanta--Alex ran his first Sr. Honda race at a new track at a regional event. He finished 7th in the Sr. Honda B Main, 3rd in the Lt. 160 B Main, and 8th in the Lt. 160 A Main. All in all, a successful event--Alex raced, made some great on track moves, and was not intimidated!
  • October 18th: NCQMA's Championship Series Points Race & Jr. Honda Cup Race--After a poor round of qualifying, Alex finished 2nd in the Jr. Honda B Main. Then driver and handler decided to go for it with an alternate set-up in the A Main. Unfortunately, it was not successful and Alex finished 8th. Alex did, however win his final Junior race when he finished 1st in the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • October 11th: NCQMA's Championship Series Points Race--Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda and won the A Main. He finished 3rd in the Jr. Stock A Main.

September

  • September 27th: The Jr. Honda Carolina Cup Race at NCQMA was canceled due to rain. (It has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 18th.)
  • September 20th: NCQMA's Championship Series Points Race--Alex won the Jr. Honda B Main, finished 2nd in the Jr. Honda A Main, and finished 4th in the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • September 13th: N. Georgia Region 3 Race: Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda and finished 2nd in the A Main. After a bad end-over-end flip, he went on to finish 3rd in the Jr. Stock A Main. 
  • September 6th: NCQMA's Championship Points Race #9 was canceled in anticipation of Tropical Storm Hanna's effects.

August

  • August 30th: Alex missed the Huntsville Region 3 Race because he had to go to the doctor to have his cast removed. Yahoo!!!
  • August 23rd: Alex set fast time and a new track record in Jr. Stock at NCQMA.  He finished 4th in the Jr. Stock Carolina Cup race. Alex got back into his Lt. 160 car and finished 4th in the A Main.
  • August 19th: NCQMA's Final Summer Series Points Race--Alex qualified 3rd in Jr. Honda and went on the win the lengthy, 204-lap A Main. He finished 2nd in the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • August 16th: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race--Since the doctor said it was fine to race and Alex wanted to race, we decided to give it a try, cast and all even on a heat race day. Alex finished 3rd in the Jr. Honda B Main and 4th in the A Main. He finished 2nd in the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • August 12th: NCQMA Summer Series Points Race--Alex did not race since he broke his right ankle this weekend and it was put in a walking cast yesterday, but he still went to the track to cheer on all of his racing buddies.

July

  • July 29th: NCQMA Summer Series Points Race--Alex finished 4th in the Jr. Honda A Main and won the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • July 19th: Alex attended his first-ever regional TaeKwonDo tournament and placed first in both his sparring and form/pattern competitions.
  • July 15th: NCQMA Summer Series Points Race--Alex won both the Jr. Honda and Jr. Stock A Main feature races.
  • July 8th: NCQMA Summer Series Points Race--Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda, but got shuffled to the back in a caution free A Main resulting in a 4th place finish.  In Jr. Stock, Alex was passing for the lead when he spun and was hit hard by another car, resulting in a wrecked car and a 6th place finish.
  • July 5th: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race--Alex qualified 2nd fastest in Jr. Honda and finished 3rd in the A Main.  He dominated and won the Jr. Stock A Main after being unable to complete his qualifying run.

June

  • June 21st-28th: Eastern Grands at Silver City--Alex qualified 4th out of 41 cars in Jr. Honda, placing him straight into the A Main where he finished 4th. Alex qualified 7th out of 23 cars in Jr. Stock, finished 3rd in the B Main, and finished 8th in the A Main after getting caught up in two different wrecks when he had no place to go to avoid them.   Alex spun twice during his qualifying run in Lt. B so qualified into the D Main. He ran the 3 minute warm-up and  beginning laps of the race keeping pace with the other cars, but pulled off the track complaining that his hands were tired. Alex has a lot to learn in this new class, but we are so proud of his willingness to participate in his first full field, ultra-competitive  Lt. B race at a different track  and at a national event, and we are confident in his driving ability.
  • June 14-15th: Region 3 Race at NCQMA--Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda with a 6.47 lap time, but was unfortunately wrecked out of the A Main with a 7th place finish. He finished 2nd in the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • June 10th: NCQMA Summer Series Points Race--Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda with a 6.506 lap time and went on to win the Jr. Honda A Main.  He finished 2nd in the Jr. Stock A Main.
  • June 7th: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race--Alex set fast time in Jr. Stock with a 6.19 lap time and won the A Main. He qualified 2nd in Jr. Honda and finished 2nd in the Jr. Honda A Main.

May

  • May 31st: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race--Alex won his heat race and A Main feature race in Jr. Honda. He also won his heat race and the A Main in Jr. Stock.
  • May 17th: NCQMA--Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda and finished 2nd in the Jr. Honda A Main.  He finished 5th in the Lt. 160 B Main which put him in the A Main Lt. 160 Carolina Cup Race where he finished 5th.
  • May 10th: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race--Alex qualified 2nd in both his Jr. Honda and Jr. Stock cars, and 8th in Lt. 160.  He finished 2nd in the Jr. Stock A Main,  led most of the Lt. 160 B Main before being involved in a wreck, and 7th in the Jr. Honda A Main which he never even started due to mechanical failure.  It was a frustrating day, but we realize sometimes we need to have bad days to appreciate all the good days!
  • May 3rd: Region 3 Race at Music City--Alex qualified 3rd in Jr. Honda and finished 4th in the A Main. He set fast time, a new track record, and won the Jr. Stock  A Main.  Alex qualified 2nd in Lt. B and finished 2nd in the A Main.

April

  • April 26th: Region 3 Race at N. Georgia--Alex set fast time in Jr. Honda and finished 3rd in the A Main. He won the Jr. Stock A Main, and wrecked out of the Lt. 160 D Main.
  • April 19th: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race: Alex finished 2nd in his Jr. Honda heat race, won the Jr. Stock heat race, and finished 4th in the Lt. 160 heat race.  Feature races were not run due to more rain delays.
  • April 12th: NCQMA Championship Series Points Race: After a late start due to a rain delay, Alex qualified 2nd in Jr. Honda, 2nd In Jr. Stock, and set a new track record in Lt. B.  He finished 2nd in both the Jr Honda and Jr Stock A Mains, and 1st in the Lt. B A Main.
  • April 5th: NCQMA's first points race was unfortunately rained out.

March

  • March 29-30th: Region 3 Race at Metro Atlanta--After numerous rain delays, Alex finally got the chance to drive his heart out.  In Jr. Honda, Alex qualified 3rd of 23 and won the A Main. Alex set fast time and a new track record in Jr. Stock, and finished 2nd in the A Main. After a flip and being spun, Alex finished 2nd in the Lt. 160 B Main to transfer to the A Main where he finished 7th. What a way to begin the 2008 season!!
  • March 15th: Opening day "Test & Tune Race" at NCQMA unfortunately ended early before Alex even got the chance to take to the track due to rain.

February

  • February 23rd-24th: Region 4 Race at Columbus Indoor--Alex was the absolute first car to qualify on the very cold, slick track.  In Jr. Honda, he won the D Main, finished 4th in the C Main, and was in transfer position in the B Main when a car chopped him breaking the right tie rod and causing him to be out of the race.  In Lt. 160, Alex led most of the E Main, finished 2nd, and then in the D Main, hit a tire in the turn, breaking his right tie rod resulting in a DNF.  Alex was disappointed, but still says that Columbus Indoor is his favorite track.
  • February 9th: Buckeye Indoor Winternationals -- Alex came back from a wrecked car in his Jr. Honda heat race to win the D Main, finish 2nd in the C Main, finish 4th in the B Main, and finish 3rd in the A Main.
